Barca star Lionel Messi was forced to leave the field injured at half-time on Tuesday following his first start game of the new season for Barcelona against Villarreal.
Messi has been battling with niggling calf problem, which he sustained at the beginning of August, and his new injury seems to be with his left thigh.. He received treatment after half an hour at Camp Nou and while he continued until the interval, he was forced out and immediately replaced by Ousmane Dembele at the start of the second half.
Barcelona hopes Messi’s injury is not very serious as that may keep him out of future games. After hurting his calf on August 5, Messi made his first appearance of the new season against Borussia Dortmund last week, when he came on to the game as a substitute.
The Barca captain was also introduced off the bench in Barca’s defeat by Granada on Saturday but was considered fit enough to start against Villarreal.
Ernesto Valverde’s side play at Getafe on Saturday before hosting Inter Milan in their second Champions League group game next Wednesday.
Moving on, they face Madrid in the first Clasico of the season on October 27.
