Ahead of the Manchester City clash with Aston Villa, City manager Pep Guardiola stated in his programme notes that he has never played Aston Villa before they are the 48th club he has met since becoming Manchester City manager in 2016.
Meanwhile, Celtic, Lyon, Wigan and Norwich are the only four teams Manchester City have not beaten in that time, but we aren’t sure if Aston Villa can join that exclusive clubs today?
Aston Villa’s home form is going to be absolutely crucial to them staying in the Premier League.
Dean Smith had to make changes in the summer, he had a lot of older players coming to the end of their contracts.
They will have a run of games against the top seven where they don’t pick up many points and it is managing yourself, the players and keeping confident. You should never get down and just keep the players as positive.
Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish he disclosed that he wants to “get himself into the England team” following an impressive start to the Premier League season.
Grealish, 24, represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level but declared himself available for England in 2015. He played seven times for England Under-21s, but is yet to receive a call-up to the senior squad.
“As soon as I got to grips with the Premier League, I feel I have been performing much better,” said Grealish.
“Personally I want to get myself into the England team and finish with as many goals and assists as possible.”
Former Stoke and West Brom manager told the BBC Radio 5 Live, ”You can’t write Man City off. They have done it, they know how to win the title. Last week against Crystal Palace they were at times back to their best. On their day they are an absolutely fantasic team. Whoever Pep Guariola plays, wherever they play, they are great players and can handle it.”
This comes after Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith slammed Manchester City saying, “They are a top team with an unbelievable winning record in the Premier League over the last two or three seasons, but they’ve shown they’re not infallible.
“We’re not taking on a super-human team, although they look like it at times. It’s a team that can make mistakes, and when they make mistakes you’ve got to punish them.”
