BarZEROna: Barca’s Slump Follows Them To Nou Camp

It seems as though Barca’s slump that saw them losing to Levante over the weekend followed them home to Nou Camp allowing visiting team, Slavia Prague, to hold the champions to a goalless draw. This marking the end to the champions scoring at home in an amazing 45 consecutive games across all competitions.

Slavia Prague wasted no time in showing they meant business with attempts on goal in the 4th minute of the opening whistle. Petr Sevcik’s producing a wonderful square cross for visitors , flying right in front of the home teams  goal. Unfortunately, Nigerian striker Peter Olayinka, was unable to  connect to the cross which saw the ball flying right infront of the goal posts.

Not deterred by this, the visitors came back a few seconds later with another attack on goal which was fought off by what can only be described as very ‘shoddy’ defense.

After a dismal performance in the first 30 minutes of the game, Barcelona seemed to get back into their stride with Lionel Messi leading the charge against Slavia, however not even the 5 time Ballon d’Or champion could break Barca’s slump as they were held to a goalless draw not only by the amazing display produced by Slavia’s goalkeeper, Ondrej Kolar, but by the very goal posts who’s goal line he protected through out the action packed game.

Lionel Messi coming close with an amazing attempt on goal in the 34th minute, only to be denied by the crossbar. Kolar, who probably showed the best performance of the game, fending off wave after wave of attacks including a near header by Gerard Pique which would have seen the home team ending the stalemate.

After 14 shots ( 6 on target), Barca were still unable to unhinge Slavia’s defense ending the game with a 0-0 draw.
