Rodrygo Takes Another Step On The Road To Greatness

18 year old Brazilian forward Rodrygo, has taken another step on the road to greatness, as he became the second youngest player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League during Real Madrid’s  game against Galatasaray on Wednesday. Not only did the upcoming star lend a hand in Real’s 6-0 victory against their opposition, but the manner and style he did it in may be one of the many reasons he has already been dubbed the ‘new Neymar’, having scored the goals using his left foot, right foot and head in a stunning display of versatility.

Rodrygo began his amazing display of football by scoring his first goal of the match in the 3rd minute,  with his left foot guiding the ball to find the back of the net thanks to a perfect cross from Marcelo.

Marcelo was once again to provide an assist which helped the former Santos striker find the back of the net with a header in the 7th minute of the game. This made him the first player to score 2 consecutive goals in the first 7 minutes of a Champions League game. Another step to greatness for the up and coming star.

Then 9 minutes into the game, after a foul on Toni Kroos in the box led the referee awarding a penalty to Real Madrid, looked like the perfect opportunity for Rodrygo to get his hat-trick as most would think he would be the obvious choice to take it given his stellar performance thus far. However that was not to be the case as skipper Sergio Ramos stepped up to the occasion sending the ball flying past Galatasaray goalkeeper, Fernano Muslera, giving Real a 3 goal lead.

Rodrygo, still riding the wave of his outstanding performance so far decided to give the fans one last treat in the 44th minute before the half time whistle by providing a lovely assist for Benzema, who brought Real’s tally to 4-0.

The hosts seemed to take things steady during the second half until Koos made a marvelous attempt on goal that was blocked by Muslera. It was here that Benzema missed a golden opportunity to add to his tally as he failed to connect properly with the rebound that came off Muslera.

Benzema was to miss another 2 oppotunites but redeemed himself in the 81st minute of the game thanks to an assist from Dani Carvajal which saw him finding the back of the net for the second time that night pushing Real to a 5-0 lead against the visitors.

Then, as if to put the nail in Galatasaray’s coffin, Rodrygo decided to end the night off by scoring his hat-trick and what was to be Real’s 6th goal of the night, seconds before the final whistle.

We can’t wait to see what more lies in store for this upcoming star, but if the night’s performance is anything to go by, we know it will be record breaking and amazing. Neymar, watch out…Rodrygo has landed.
