Thiem Casts Shadow Over Federer ATP Title Chances

In an amazing display of tennis, Dominic Thiem was able to beat Roger Federer (for the third time this year) at the ATP round robins and casts a shadow over Federer’s chances of walking away with a seventh ATP Title.

The French Open Runner up who was making his forth appearance at the ATP started the match of showing excellent form as he went on to win the opening games. Federer, after a shaky start,seemed to bounce back . However, Federer’s Lack luster performance saw Thiem take the decisive break of the first set.

Federer tried to come back in the second set but a combination of missed chances and bad leg work allowed Thiem to walk away with a second set victory clinching the match. Theim dominated the most of the second set as he served out the match .

Federer has been unable to best Thiem in their last 3 confrontations and this also marks the second time that Federer has lost his opening match at the ATP’s as he was defeated last year by Kei Nishikori.

Thiem won the match with a comfortable 7-5 7-5 victory over Federer. Federer will need to up his game should he have any chance of walking way with this years ATP Title.

This marks a great victory for Thiem who has never been able to make it past the round-robin stage of the ATP tournament in his previous 3 appearances. The Austrian has now leads Federer in their head -to-head encounters by an impressive  5-2
