Underdog Dominic Thiem secures himself a spot in the ATP Finals semifinal round after an amazing comeback victory over world ranked number 2 Novak Djokovic after Tuedays nights match at the O2 Arena.

The beginning of the match saw Djokovic winning the first set 7-6. Thiem seemed to regain his form in what was a brilliantly played set which he won 6-3 sending the match into a 3rd set tiebreak.
Djokovic opened the 3rd set wonderfully reaching a 4-1 advantage over Thiem in the deciding set. However, Thiem made an amazing comeback, winning the set 7-6.
During the post match interview Djokovic came out congratulating his opponent on his great performance and resilience throughout the Match.
“I thought he deserved to win. He just played very courageous tennis and [was] just smacking the ball. He went for broke,” Djokovic said. “The entire match he played same way he played the last point. I have to put my hat down and congratulate him, because he just played a great match.”

This much deserved victory not only marks his greatest achievement in the ATP Finals tournament as he reaches the semi finals for the first, but also makes him the second person in the tournament’s history to beat both Djokovic and Federer, an achievement only accomplished by last years ATP Finals tournament champion Alexander Zverez.
All eyes are now on Thursday match between Djokovic and Federeras they go head to head to see which of the 2 greats will join Thiem in the semi’s.
The lose to Thiem is a major blow for Djokovic who needed the points to help reduce the point gap between him and the current world number 1 Rafael Nadal, in his hopes to end the year at the top of the rankings.
