Ironically, Mainz last win in the Bundesliga was in October when they beat FC Köln who at the time was coached by Beierlorzer himself. They went on to fire their coach Sandro Schwarz on 10 November after a dismal performance that saw the team losing to Leipzig 8-0.

Beierlorzer who was hired to coach FC Köln  on 1 July 2019 was contracted to work there until 2021, but due to his dismal track record at the club, achieving only 2 wins, 2 draws and 9 loses in FC Köln’s last 13 appearances, the team decided to end his contract abrupty and look for someone else to rescue them out of their current relegation spot.
