1-3 Victory Over Slavia Keeps Inter Milan In Champions League Race

Inter Milan are still contenders for a final 16 spot in the next round of the Champions League after their 1-3 victory over hosts Slavia Prague on Wednesday.

Lautaro Martinez scored the opening goal of the match in the 19th minute giving Inter Milan an early lead. Slavia Prague were then handed a golden oppotunity to level the game when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Slavian midfielder Peter Olayinka by Milan’s Stefan de Vrij.

Slavian captain Tomas Soucek stepped up to take the crucial penalty kick pummeling right down the middle, finding the back of the net and bringing Slavia back into the game as the teams went into the half time break  leveled at 1-1.

Inter Milan returned with fire in the second half remaining on the offensive with two near misses that saw both Romelu Lakuku and Brozovic both hitting the cross bar within a space of 4 minutes.

Lakuku was finally able to find the back of the net in the 81st minute marking his  250th goal of his football career and the second goal for his side to put them in front with a 1-2 lead in the 81st minute.

Lakuku then went on to assist Martinez score his second goal of the match in the 88th minute, giving Inter Milan a well earned and deserved 1-3 victory over Slavia.

Inter Milan are now ranked 2nd in group F and tied with Borussia Dortmund on 7 points. They currently lead Dortmund with a 3 point goal difference.

In order to guarantee a spot in the final 16 knock out stage they would need to match or better Dortmund’s up-coming result against Slavia when they meet Barcelona on 10 December.
