Liverpool’s future in the Champions League is now on the line as they face a daunting holiday line-up 9 games. After having drawn in their game against Napoli last night, Liverpool now can not afford anything less then a draw in their next Champions League qualifier match against Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg if they wish to continue their campaign.
Napoli were the first to score with Dries Mertens putting finding the goal in the 21st minute of play. Napoli then went on the defensive trying to maintain their lead as Liverpool tried to break though their defensive line in search of an equalizer. The teams went into the half time break with Napoli leading 0-1.
Liverpool caught a break in the second half when Dejan Lovren’s header found its way into the Napoli goal in the 65th minute of play.
Liverpool continued on the offensive spending most of the remainder of the match in the visitors half but were unable to concede a goal bringing the match to an end with both teams level at 1-1.
To add onto their pressure, Liverpool may also have to continue without Fabinho who was taken off after only 19 minutes during an injury he received.
It is not yet clear the how severe the injury was or how long it may take him to recover but seeing as he left Anfield wearing a protective boot, the prognosis does not look good for Liverpool who need to muster all that they can in their next Champions League match against Red Bull.
