Newcastle Hand Aston Villa Victory On A Silver Platter

Newcastle all but gave away their game to home side Aston Villa who went to claim victory during Monday’s league game. They just served up 2 goals to the hosts on a silver platter through two very unnecessary fouls.

The first mistake for Newcastle came from DeAndre Yedlin who for some unknown reason decided it would be a good idea to give Jack Grealish a shove right on the edge of the penalty box.

Conor Hourihane was to take the free kick tapping it gently to team mate Grealish who held the ball stationary for the Irishman to blast it right round New Castle’s defensive wall and score Aston Villa’s first goal of the match in the 32nd minute of play.

Then as if Newcastle had not yet learnt from their previous error, New Castle’s Fernandez decided to have his go at  Grealish, taking him down once again just outside the penalty box.

Hourihane was once again at the free kick set piece with a marvelous cross that saw Anwar El Ghazi connecting with his back foot sending the ball into the Newcastle goal to give Aston Villa a 2-0 lead over their visitors in the 36th minute of play.

A corner kick for Newcastle almost saw the team bounce back with their first goal as Fernandez connected beautifully with a header to the corner cross sending the ball bouncing towards Villa’s goal line only to be pushed away by Villa’s ever vigilant goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Newcastle did try come  back on the offensive with an attempt by Allan Saint-Maximin who took a wonderfully powered shot from outside the Aston Villa box which curled its way on target only to be tapped out by Villa keeper Tom Heaton.

This was definitely a not so heart-warming welcome for Former Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce who was making  his first return to Villa Park since parting ways with Aston Villa in 2018.

This win for Aston Villa means that they now move up to 15th position on the league table with Newcastle remaining at 14 just above them.
