Jose Mourinho To Replace Fallen Mauricio Pochettinio At Tottenham??

Everyone is asking whether Jose Mourinho will be the ‘Chosen One’ to replace Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettinio who was fired from the club on Tuesday after 5 years as club manager. Jose is said to be in talks with the Premiership club however no official statements have been made from either side as to whether he will take the job or not.

Mauricio joined Tottenham Hotspurs on 24 May 2014 after leading his former team Southampton to their highest Premiership ranking as they finished that season at 8th position.

In January 2015 he led the team to the finals of the League cup which they lost to Chelsea. in  his first full season with the team in the domestic League, he finished 5th on the table and followed up on this success the following year as Tottenham ended the season ranked at number 3, their highest Premier League finish at the time.

On 12 May 2016 he extended his contract with the team to 2021. He began his 2016-17 campaign on an astounding 12 League game undefeated streak which was brought to an end by rivals Chelsea in November that year. In return, they went on to bring Chelsea’s 13 game unbeaten streak to an end as they beat their rivals in January 2017.

His 2nd place season finish for Tottenham that year saw him breaking 3 club records. He achieved their highest ever tally as they ended the season on 86 points. Their 2nd place finish was their highest ranking in 54 years and their 12 game  home unbeaten streak was the longest run for the side in 52 years.

He signed a 5 year contract with the team in May 2018 that was to see him there until 2023. Later that year in  December, he won his 100th Premiership game as manager of Tottenham making him the first Tottenham manager to do this as well as the third quickest manager in Premiership  history to do so with a single club.

May 2019 saw Mauricio taking the team to their first ever Champions League final which they inevitably lost to Liverpool 2-0.

His sacking this year comes after a dismal start to the season that has see’s Tottenham currently sitting at 14th with a poultry 14 points after having won only 3 of last 14 games.

With Spurs now having a new £1bn stadium and training ground to call home, they are trying to revamp their status and are looking to see whether Jose Mourinho is the man to bring them back to their recent football glory once seen under the helm of Mauricio.

Mourinho has already turned down offers form major clubs around the world but after almost a year on the sidelines we can only wonder whether he will take on the Tottenham challenge and at the same time try regain his former status as the “Special One”, a title he lost after his painful stint as Manchester United Manager.
