Arsenal’s Downward Spiral Continues After 1-2 loss To Brighton

Sacking Unai Emery was meant to have been the solution to stopping Arsenal’s downward spiral through the Premiership but after their 1-2 loss to Brighton which leaves them still ranked 10 on the Premiership log, the question is where do they go from here.

As Arsenal now go 9 games without a win, the longest winless streak since 1977, moral at the Emirates has hit an all-time low.

Interim manager and member of Arsenals “invincibles” Freddie Ljungberg was unable to turn the tide during his first appearance as a manager at the Emirates.

Freddi Ljungberg blamed Arsenal’s loss at the Emirates to the team’s lack of “confidence” which was clearly apparent for all to see during a half-hearted and lousy first-half performance.

“They look very short on confidence,”

“In the first half they were scared to get the ball and a bit scared to move, they were just standing still”, Ljungberg said describing his team’s shortcomings in the first half.

Right from the whistle the home side was up in shambles and continued this way throughout the first half. They kept giving away the ball until eventually, Brighton decided to take advantage of Arsenal’s shortcomings as Adam Webster put away the first goal of the game sending Brighton into the halftime break with a 0-1 lead over the hosts.

Freddie Ljungberg who spent most of the first half yelling out at his side trying to get them back into the game must have given them one hell of talk in the changing room during the break as the team that came back onto the pitch in the second half actually seemed to contain some sign of life.

Nicolas Pepe also made an appearance in the second half further bolstering Arsenal’s short-lived comeback as Alexandre Lacazette was able to finally put the Gunners on the board with a wonderful header which leveled the score at 1-1 in the 50th minute of play.

For a moment it seemed as though the Gunners had finally turned the tide of their misfortunes as a header from David Luiz found its way into the Brighton goal. Unfortunately, after VAR checking by the referee, the goal was disallowed.

This drawback seemed to have crushed the Gunners slow-building momentum as they seemed to return to the slump they had found themselves in during the first time.

This gave Brighton the opportunity to seal the deal with a header from Neal Maupay thanks to an assist from teammate Aaron Mooy.

Freddie Ljungberg and the rest of the Arsenal squad left the Emirates amid the sound of boos and jeers emanating from their supporters as the team went on to lose 1-2.

If the Arsenal board does not come up with a solid and permanent solution to their leadership crisis, they may find themselves fighting off relegation instead of looking for a Championship spot in the top 4.

Arsenal’s next game is on Monday where we’ll see the Gunners traveling to West Ham.
