Chelsea Through To Champions League Final 16 after 2-1 win against Lille

Chelsea joins fellow English team, Liverpool, as they sail through to the next round of the Champions League Final 16 after a 2-1 win against Lille.

Chelsea finished 2nd in the Group H log tied on 11 points with Valencia who only beat them based on superiority in head-to-head competition.

Chelsea dominated the match against Lille who knew that their hopes of continuing in the Champions League were long gone and were now only playing for pride.

Frank Lampard’s team were first on the scoreboard with a goal in the 19th minute of play from Tammy Abraham thanks to an assist from Willian Borges da Silva.

Cesar Azpilicueta scored a second goal for the home side in the 35th minute giving them a 2-0 lead over Lille as they went into the second half.

Lille tightened up their defense in the second half as they kept Chelsea at bay. Refusing to go down without a fight, Lille’s Loic Remymanaged to score a goal for the away side in the 78th minute bringing the game to an end with Chelsea going through to the next round with a 2-1 win over Lille.

Chelsea who last won the Champions League title in 2012 against Bayern Munich on Penalties will be looking to secure another Championship title under the helm of new manager Frank Lampard.
