Manchester United Back In Form With 4-0 Win Over AZ Alkmaar

Manchester United have come out on top of Europa Group L with a 4-0 win against AZ Alkmaar. Both Manchester United and AZ Alkmaar now progress to the next stage of the  Europa tournament.

Manchester’s 18-year-old Mason Greenwood was definitely the man of the youngster not only scored 2 goals in a 6 minute time frame but also became Manchester’s leading goal scorer in Europe this season.

The 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar is Manchester United’s biggest win in Europe since 2016.

There wasn’t much to talk about in the first half of the game as both teams didn’t seem to put up much of a fight as they both went into the half time break level at 0-0.

It was only during the second half when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side breathed some life into what was up until now a very bland and eventless game.

A wonderful assist from Juan Mata allowed Ashley Young to score Manchester’s first goal of the night in the 53rd minute of the game putting them in the lead 1-0.

Mason Greenwood then hoofed a brilliant shot from the edge of the box to give Manchester 2-0 lead in the 58th minute of play.

Manchester United was awarded a penalty that was put away by Juan Mata giving the home side a 3-0 lead.

Mason Greenwood wrapped things up for Manchester scoring his second goal of the night in the 64th minute of play which bolstered his team to a 4-0 victory over the visitors.

Mason Greenwood’s goals in the game now make him the youngest  Manchester United player to score a double in major European competitions at 18 years and 72 days.

Marcus Rashford is the only United player to score more goals then Greenwood at Manchester this season with 13  goals across all competitions.

Manchester United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came out in praises of his young superstar as he said the following about Greenwood during the post-game interview:

“He’s different class as a finisher, if there’s anything around the box you expect him to get a shot off and on target, he’s good at creating space for himself and right foot, left foot it doesn’t matter. I’m very pleased with his performance.

“He’s a different type to Wazza [Wayne Rooney] and the good thing about Mason is he is just going to look forward to Sunday. It’s natural for him to score goals, it doesn’t matter what level it is.”
