Tendai “Beast” Mtawariraha Signs With USA Old Glory DC

Tendai “Beast” Mtawariraha just signed a contract with Washington’s Old Glory Dc that will see the former Springbok forward moving to the USA as he moves on to the next chapter of what has so far been a spectacular rugby career.

After winning the 2019 Rugby World Cup with the Springboks, Tendai announceed his retirement from international rugby. It seems though he will be retiring from South Africa all together as he also parted ways with his former club the Sharks.

The Zimbabwean born rugby star has a 117 cap for the Springboks and holds the record for the most Super Rugby caps by a South Africa at 160.

Old Glory DC is a relatively new team in America’s Major Rugby League (MLR) having only been founded in 2018. They made their MLR debut on 19 May 2019 against Shannon RFC. They only managed to win 2 out of their 4 games this year.

Old Glory DC  club owners Chris Dunlavey and Paul Sheehy are hopeful that the introduction of the Beast to the team will not only improve their performance in the upcoming 2020 season but also attract more fans to the MLR franchise.

Sheehy went on to welcome Tendai saying, ‘We are honored to have him join our team. This is a game-changer for Major League Rugby.’
