Fiorentina has decided to sack manager Vincenzo Montella as the team finds itself at 14th spot in the Italian Serie A after 1-4 loss to AS Roma.
With the team having only picked up 17 points in 17 games, the clubs board has decided that enough is enough and needs to find a solution to the side ever-decreasing performance before they soon find themselves fighting relegation.
The club issued the following statement on its website:
“Vincenzo Montella has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team,”
“The decision was taken following a long and detailed analysis of the team’s performances and results.”
“Given the need to rediscover the necessary grit and determination on the pitch and produce an immediate turnaround, the owners and management decided that a change of coach was the best option,”
The club will be announcing his replacement in the upcoming days. With the team having started their winter break, they will have until 6 January to regroup and restructure as necessary before their return to the Serie A.
The team has only been able to secure 2 points from their last 7 games having suffered a massive drop in performance since Franck Ribery was sidelined until February due to an ankle injury.
