AC Milan’s Woes Worsen After Worst Defeat Since 1998

AC Milan’s 0-5 loss to Atalanta on Sunday is now their worst defeat since 1998. As club Stefano Pioli quite rightfully said: “This cannot be the real Milan.”

AC Milan are dropping ever further in the Italian Serie A log as they now find themselves at 11th with 21 points.

Atalanta who are having wonderful season saw far as they already find themselves through to the knock out stages of the UEFA Champions League showed no mercy as they dominated the visitors right from the onset.

Captain Alejandro Gomez put Atalanta in the lead with his opening goal on the 10-minute mark. The remained on the offensive throughout the first half but were unable to find the net as the first half ended with Atlanta leading 1-0.

Ac Milan came out in the second half but seemed to have left their confidence and will to play behind in the dressing room as they put on an even worse performance than in the first half.

Atalanta’s Pasalic scored the sides second goal in the 61st minute of play with teammate Josip Ilicic going on to put the club 3-0 ahead just 2 minutes later.

Ilicic scored again in the 72nd minute. With AC Milan not putting up much of a fight against the ongoing onslaught, Luis Muriel scored Atalanta’s fifth and final goal of the game in the 83rd minute.

Throughout the game, AC Milan only managed 1 shot on goal against Atalanta’s 11. AC Milan who finished 5th in the Serie A last season, find themselves continuing to drop in the League this season.

Even after replacing ex-manager Marco Giampaolo who only managed to hold the post from July to October this year, the team has seen almost no improvement.

Pioli was truly disappointed with the performance of his side throughout the game , coming out to say the following in his post-game interview:

“Today’s performance was seriously insufficient. I expected a reaction from us in the second half but it didn’t come. In fact, we were even worse.”
