Pakistan Successfully Host First Test Cricket Match Since 2009

Having finally been able to host their first test match since 2009, Pakistan came out to beat Sri Lanka by 263 runs after bowling out the visitors for 212.

Today’s match came to a quick end as Pakistan wiped out the remainder of the Sri Lankan team with just 16 balls on the fifth morning of the match. This meant that Pakistan won the match by 263 runs.

Naseem Shah aged 16 years and 307 days, became the youngest bowler to claim 5 wickets in Tests claiming an amazing 5/31 in the second inning.

Pakistan won the series 1-0 after the first test in rainy Rawalpindi ended in a draw.

This is the first Test that Pakistan has hosted on home soil ever since the deadly terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus in  2009 that left 6 security personnel and 2 civilians dead and 6 players injured.

Since then Zimbabwe has been the only touring nation to have played in Pakistan when they went to play three One Day International’s (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches in May 2015.

The Pakistan side thanked Sri Lanka for bringing test cricket back to Pakistan as captain Azhar Ali went on to tell the press after the game:

“They have given us immense happiness by playing in Pakistan,”

“It’s a great occasion for happiness for all of us that we won the series. It carried great importance and was very significant because we were playing our first home Test”

After successfully hosting the Test match, Pakistan ar enow hoping that other nationals will follow suit and accept their invitation to play in Pakistan in the future in the hopes of bringing Test cricket back to the cricket-loving nation.
