Arsenal dominated most of the game as they started the first half strong as they managed to gain an early lead thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang opened the scoreline with a goal in the 13th minute of play. Arsenal continued their strong performance throughout the half.

Mesut Ozil whose performance has greatly dwindled after his fall out with ex-manager Unai Emery put on an impressive display during the game that earned him applause from the crowd as he was substituted later in the second half.

Mikel Arteta looked as though he would be going on to celebrate his first home side game at the Emirates since becoming manager as the game entered its 80th minute until Chelsea pulled off an amazing comeback.

Jorginho who came in off the bench for Emerson in the first half went on to score Chelsea’s equalizing goal in the 83rd minute of play leveling the score at 1-1.

A few minutes later, teammate Tammy Abraham stole the limelight by scoring a second goal for the away side finishing off Adam Lampard’s comeback win against Arsenal.

The game reached full time with the scoreline reading  Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea much to the shock of the home crowd.

Even with the loss, the home crowd cheered their side at the end of the game for a much-improved effort compared to their previous dismal performances.

Arsenal now find themselves going into the New Year at 12th place on the Premier League table as they go on to face Manchester United on New Year’s day.

Chelsea who are 4th on the Premier League table 34 points will face Brighton on 1 January 2020.

Mikel Arteta will need to confront Arsenal’s shortcomings if he is to have any chance of changing the side’s misfortunes in the next half of the season.
