Brad Mooar Leaves Scarlets And Joins The All Blacks As Assistant Coach

Welsh rugby giants The Scarlets have agreed to let go of head coach Brad Mooar as he now joins the New Zealand All Blacks as Assistant coach to Ian Foster.

Mooar who was on a 3-year contract with the Scarlets as been allowed to leave just after 6 months after the All Blacks paid $260,000 to secure his release.

Mooar was previously assistant coach at New Zealand’s Canterbury Crusaders and assisted them to win 3 consecutive Super Rugby Cups from 2017-19 before joining the Scarlets as head coach earlier this year.

The Scarlets are currently in second place in the European Challenge Cup having won 3 of their 4 games and will face Cardiff Blues in the 5th round of the tournament on 11 January 2020.

Mooar will continue to see his club through their European competitions and will only be joining the All Blacks next June.

Ian Foster, who took over as All Blacks head coach after New Zealand lost to England during the Rugby World Cup, is looking forward to having more back in New Zealand as part of his team.

Chris Lendrum head of New Zealand’s Professional Rugby went on to say:

“We’re pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Scarlets which will see Brad return to New Zealand in June at the conclusion of the club’s European competitions,”

“We recognise the difficult position it put the club in, but they, like us, also recognised that it was a fantastic opportunity for Brad — the chance to coach his country.”
