Mohamed Salah netted double in a Liverpool undefeated Premier League run at the leading position as the Reds down struggling Watford in manager Nigel Pearson’s first match appearance.
The Egyptian international, Salah curled the ball into the far corner for the first goal before finally flicking in a late second goal in the final minute of normal time at Anfield.
Nigel Pearson’s side missed lots of chances both in first and second halves. Meanwhile Liverpool’s Sadio Mane had a smart header ruled out for offside after VAR interference.
Jurgen Klopp who just signed an extension deal to stay in Liverpool until 2024 remain unbeaten in the league this season, while Watford stay at six points from relegation zone.
Liverpool consciously worked for their victory as goalkeeper Alisson made brilliant saves after the break, meanwhile Watford’s Ismaila Sarr also wasted many chances he could have converted positively.
Mohamed Salah wouldn’t be free if those who wasted opportunities were to be penalize, although collectively Liverpool worked hard enough to scoop up their 16th victory of the season and picked up an 11-point away at the top ahead of second position Leicester City’s game against Norwich later on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
More joy at Anfield!
