Kim Clijsters Announces Comeback Plan Beginning In Mexico In March

Clijsters, 36, originally wanted to return to competition in time so as to play in January at the Australian Open, a Grand Slam trophy she won in 2011, but couldn't do so following a  knee injury she was battling.

Kim Clijsters, who has retired from active game two difference times, the last in 2011, said on Monday that she will make a comeback beginning in Mexico in March 2019.

“A few more weeks of patience and I’ll be ready to go. The absence has been long enough.” the Belgian four-time winner said in a video that was posted on the internet.

Clijsters first retirement was in May 2007, and then she made a comeback in August 2009 after giving birth to her first child.

Clijsters, 36, originally wanted to return to competition in time so as to play in January at the Australian Open, a Grand Slam trophy she won in 2011, but couldn’t do so following a  knee injury she was battling.

Clijsters noted that the kneel injury “wasn’t fully healed yet, but in a few more weeks I’ll be ready to go.”

She revealed that she will be returning in Monterrey by March 2-8, and then play Indian Wells in March 11-22 and Charleston April 4-12. Clijsters has won the Indian Wells tournament twice in 2003 and 2005.

Kim Clijsters has 41 career titles to her credit, three US Open in 2005, 2009 and 2010 and one Australian Open. She became a professional in 1997 and hit the world No.1 height the first time in 2003 and then recently in February 2011 after she made her first comeback.
