The Carabao Cup derby between Manchester City and Manchester United takes place on Wednesday 29 January with Man City leading 3-1 in aggregate after their last encounter at Old Trafford on 7 January 2020.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a man on a mission to keep his job right now. Even though having just come from a 0-6 win to Tranmere over the weekend, he is still far from safe as United’s performance in not only the Premier League but also the Carabao Cup after their 1-3 defeat to City, has been far from acceptable.
Paul Pogba looks like he will soon be making a return to the pitch as he was seen over the weekend without his cast on.
Nemanja Matic is the latest injury to worry Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Serbian midfielder was taken off at halftime during United’s game against Tranmere over the weekend.
“We need everyone but, of course, some of these players have played loads of football,”
“Nemanja had to come off, let’s see how he is before tomorrow. Anthony [Martial], we could take off at half-time and Harry [Maguire] has played the most football for us, which is okay. City rested their players as well so they’ll be just as fresh.”
“Apart from Nemanja it’s the same squad. Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] will be back in the squad and David [De Gea] too. We should be the same squad that’s been travelling lately. They’ve done fantastic. We have two more games [this week] so let’s give what we have, then we have a little break.”
“Nemanja felt something and to make sure we give him the best possible chance for tomorrow night we took him off [at Tranmere]. I think he should be all right but let’s see today in training.” Ole told MUTV giving a preview of his lineup and strategy going into the derby.
With Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne having been rested during City’s weekend FA Cup encounter with Fulham and Nicolas Otamendi back at training, Pep Guardiola has more than enough fit players to choose from with only Leroy Sane being sidelined and Aymeric Laporte still under the scope after recovering from his back injury.
Pep is yet to announce his squad for Wednesday’s fixture as he is still keen on rotating the squad as before during up games but went on to give Man United a little poke as he went on to say :
“It’s a semi-final. When you play games against your opponent for many years sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Against a top club like United, you can win and lose games.
“I didn’t expect when I arrived here that I would win all the time against Manchester United. We’ve beaten them more than we’ve lost, especially last season when we beat them all the time.
