NBA no. 1 draft pick Zion Williamson made his much-anticipated debut as the Antonio Spurs beat the Pelicans 121-117 at the Smoothie King Center.

Zion Williamson underwent an arthroscopic procedure just before the Pelicans season opener against the Raptors after suffering from what at the time he thought was just “right knee soreness”.

Although the Pelicans went down 121-117 to Antonio Spurs, Zion Williamson was able to give a preview of what was to come as he begins this new journey with the Pelicans.

The no.1 NBA draft pick led his team scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in his limited 18 minutes on the court. Of those 22 points, he scored 17 in 3 minutes of the fourth quarter.

This shot burst landed him in the NBA record books as being the most points scored by a Rookie debut in less than 20 minutes.

Teammate Brandon Ingram followed closely behind him with 22 points 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Antonio Spurs dominate much of the game, winning the first three quarters until Williamson made his splash in the fourth.

LaMarcus Aldridge got a double-double with an impressive 32 points 14 rebounds and 2 assists. Demar DeRozan followed up on the Spurs scoresheet posting  20 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist.

The Pelicans find themselves at 12th position on the Western Conference table going 17-28 whilst the Spurs are up at 8th position with this being their 3rd straight win going 20-23.
