US Cancel Soccer Training Camp At Doha, Qatar Amid Security Fears

The US Soccer Federation has had to cancel the soccer training camp it had scheduled to have in Doha, Qatar between 5-25 January due to security reasons.

The cancellation comes amid fears of retaliation against the US and the players’ security as a result of an airstrike in Baghdad, Iraq that let to the death of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani.

The US looking at competing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and were hoping the soccer training camp in Doha would give their players sneak preview of what awaited them in the World Cup host city should they manage to qualify.

The US Soccer Federation put out the following statement:

“We are working with the Qatar Football Association to find an opportunity in the near future for our team to experience Qatar’s world-class facilities and hospitality,”

The training camp will now take place on 6 January 2020 at MG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
