Arsenal recorded their 4th consecutive Premier League draw as they were held 0-0 against Burnley. Mikel Arteta went on to blame the Turf Moor pitch for his side’s inability to fully perform during the match.
“The conditions were difficult. The grass was this long and they didn’t put any water on it, and that’s not a very helpful thing to play football.”
“They do what they do really well and you are allowed to do it so we have to react to that.” Mikel Arteta went onto say in his post-game interview.
Arsenal did, however, miss some golden opportunity to get ahead in the game against Burnley with Alexandre Lacazette sending his header flying wide off the goal from a perfectly crossed ball from Gabon early on in the game.
Aubameyang also missed an opportunity to put the Gunners in the lead when he managed to find his way past Burnley defender Matthew Lowton and connect with David Luiz’s pass only to send the ball wide.
Rodriguez came very close to giving Burnley a late win when he managed to connect with McNeil’s pass which unfortunately ending up hitting the Arsenal crossbar and bouncing right on the goal line but did not cross over.
Mikel Arteta was unable to feature his new signing Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares due to fitness concerns.
Although Arsenal’s draw at Turf Moor meant they managed to move back into the Premier League top 10 tied on 31 points with Burnley, Newcastle and Southampton, Mikel Arteta still finds himself 10 points shy off a Champions League spot.
Arsenal’s inability to go the full 9 yards and actually win a game is starting to frustrate Arteta as he went on to say the following in his post-game interview:
“I was very disappointed with the way we started the second half. For the first 20 minutes we couldn’t control any aspect of the game, and we were lucky not to concede a goal,”
“We need more consistency. We were fantastic in some moments but we were so sloppy and we put ourselves in big trouble with a lot of unnecessary situations.”
Hopefully, when his new signings finally hit the pitch, he will be able to finally get Arsenal on course to a Champions League qualification spot by the end of the season.
