Jose Mourinho has come to the defence of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli who posted a video on Snapchat where he made fun on the Coronavirus outbreak.
In the video, Dele Alli can be seen wearing a face mask while in an airport departure lounge with the caption  ‘Corona whattt, please listen with volume’.
He then grabs a bottle of antiseptic handwash after pointing the camera to an Asian man followed by another caption saying ‘This virus gunna have to be quicker than that to catch me’.
The video received a lot of negative response on social media given the magnitude and heavy death toll reaching over 1,400 people so far as the Coronavirus continues to spread worldwide.
As a result of this, he quickly apologised for the video and deleted it from his Snapchat account but the damage had already been done.
The English Football Association (FA) have formally asked the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder to explain the video.
Jose Mourinho, on the other hand, has just chalked up the incident to youth and the mistakes that come with it going on to defend Delle Alli by saying:
“I spoke with him (Alli) about that but it was quite an easy conversation because he was very sorry about — let’s say, the mistake — but it was never his intention to hurt or offend,”
“He immediately regretted and recognised it was a young generation mistake and he apologised.”
“I have a son at the same age as Dele and many of the players.”
“I know social media is for his generation but when you are a public person like footballers are, they have to know and they have to be very, very careful.”
“Dele is a great guy. The last thing he is, is anything connected with racism.”
Dele now awaits to hear what the FA have to say about his ruling and he has enough cause to be worried as Manchester City’s Bernando Silva was previously fined £50,000 for an inappropriate tweet to fellow team-mate Benjamin Mandy. the fine came along with a one-game ban.
The FA take do not take kindly to any social media posts or public comments that bring the game into disrepute as underlined by Rule E3.
