Porto striker Moussa Marega walked off the pitch amid a slur of racist chants after scoring the winning goal for Porto as they beat Vitoria Guimaraes 1-2.

It was stated by Porto manager Sergio Conceiçao also confirmed that Moussa Marega had been the victim of racist taunts from some of the home side supporters right from the warm-up session.

After scoring the second and winning goal for his club FC Porto he celebrated by pointing to his skin as a reply to the racial abuse he had been receiving from various supporters in the stands throughout the game.

Referee Luis Godinho issued him with a yellow card for the incident.

Moments later as the racial abuse increased, Marega decided he had had enough and proceeded to walk off the pitch.

He was held back by a number of players from both FC Porto and opposing side Vitoria Guimaraes with even Porto manager Sergio Conceiçao running onto the pitch to calm his player down.

Marega, however, was not putting up with it anymore as he walked off the pitch into the tunnel but not before he raised his thumbs and then middle fingers up at the crowd of abusive supporters.

He was later substituted in the 72nd minute of play after the game resumed.

Porto Manager Sergio Conceiçao came out in defence of his striker as he went on to tell reporters the following in his post-game interview:

We are completely indignant,”

“They insulted Marega since the warm-up. We are all a family here, regardless of our nationality, skin colour, height or the colour of our hair and we all deserve respect. What happened here is outrageous.”

“I know the fans here are very passionate about their club and many fans are not represented by some of the people who were in the crowd today.”

On his Instagram, Marega blasted both the abusive fans, calling them “idiots”.

He also called out referee Luis Godinho who he believes did nothing to help the situation when he issued him with the yellow card after he scored the winning goal as he posted the following message:

“I’d also like to show my thanks to the referee who did not defend me and who gave me a yellow card for defending the colour of my skin. I hope I never meet you on a football pitch ever again. You are a disgrace,”.
