Manchester United made 2 last-minute signings before the close of the transfer window On Friday. Nigerian Odion Ighalo and Southend United Nathan Bishop will now join the squad on their Premier League campaign.

Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has been signed on loan without an option to buy until the end of the season and although his signing does not conform to Man United’s policy of going for long term signings, it was a necessary move as a short term solution to replacing an injured Marcus Rashford.

This is not the first time Odion Ighalo has played in England, having played for Watford from 2014 to 2017 and scoring 39 goals in 99 matches.

He then moved to the Chinese Super League in 2017 signing with Changchun Yatai first before moving to Shanghai Shenhua where he scored 10 goals in 19 appearances.

He is expected to arrive from China in the next coming days.

Odion Ighalo previously turned down an offer from Barcelona but did not hesitate when Manchester came calling as it has been a dream of his to play for the club.

He will be a much-welcomed addition to the club with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally having someone to take over at the front line with Marcus Rashford still recovering from the stress fracture in his back.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his optimism in what the Nigerian international could bring to the squad saying:

“Odion is an experienced player,”

“He will come in and give us an option of a different type of centre-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us.”

“A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here.”.

Manchester United also managed to sign Nathan Bishop from Southend United on a two and a half year contract.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper has made a total of 39 appearances for Southend United since joining the squad in 2017.

Nathan Bishop expressed his joy at being the opportunity to develop his talent at Manchester United going on to say:

“The opportunity to join Manchester United is a dream come true,”

“This club has a great record of developing goalkeepers and I cannot wait to work with the coaches here to improve every single day.”
