NBA Legend Kobe Bryant Honoured at 2020 Oscars

Director Spike Lee went on to honour fallen NBA legend Kobe Bryant at the 2020 Oscars wearing a custom purple and gold tuxedo with the numbers 2 and 4 embroidered on the lapels.

Director Spike Lee went on to honour fallen NBA legend Kobe Bryant at the 2020 Oscars wearing a custom purple and gold tuxedo with the numbers 2 and 4 embroidered on the lapels.

Kobe Bryant who won an Oscar in 2018 for Best Animated Short Film for “Dear Basketball” which was based on a poem he wrote.

At the 92 Academy Awards, Kobe was also honoured during the Oscars 2020 in Memorium segment in which the Academy pays tribute to actors, writers, producers and various other celebrities that have recently passed on.

Kobe Bryant was among the 9 people that passed away when their helicopter crashed on Sunday 26 January 2020. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant was travelling with him when the tragic incident occurred.

The image of the NBA legend was the first to be displayed in the montage dedicated to those honoured that night with a quotation of his plastered on the big screen which read:

“Life is too short to get bogged down and be discouraged,”

“You have to keep moving. You have to keep growing.”

Spike Lee wore the custom purple and gold tuxedo alongside a pair of Nike Kobe 9 Elite basketball shoes.
