Sheffield United Edging Closer To Premier League Top 4 Finish

Sheffield United beat Bournemouth 2-1 today and find themselves just 2 points away from overtaking Chelsea and taking a spot in the top 4.

Sheffield are on route to making an appearance in the Champions League as they close in on a top 4 finish in the Premier League this season.

Sheffield United now are now on  5th position on the Premier League table with 39 points just 2 shy of Chelsea who in 4th position with 41.

This is the Blades first time in major major European competition and not only have they made an impact in the Premier League debut season, but if they continue in their current form, they may be making a first-time appearance in the UEFA Champions League next season

Bournemouth took an early lead thanks to an early goal from Callum Wilson who scored in the 13th minute off a rebounded attempt by Harry Wilson.

Sheffield fought hard to get back in the game and their efforts finally paid off just before the halftime whistle when Billy Sharp scored the equalizing goal for the Blades.

Substitute John Lundstram was to score the winning goal for Sheffield in the 84th minute thanks to an assist from Lys Mousset end the game with Sheffield winning 2-1.

Living up to its reputation, this Premier League match was not without its bit of drama as Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder found himself in a physical encounter with Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman.

The encounter had players from both sides rushing to separate the two men who were shoving each other before being separated and shown yellow cards from referee Jon Moss.

Chis Wilder brushed off the incident and wen ton to say the following in his post-game interview:

“Their player thought I had the ball behind my back [to stop a quick throw-in], but I didn’t,”

“I’m still coming to terms with this division, it’s a passionate game, I’m a passionate manager and I have no issue with Eddie [Howe].”

“It calmed down after that but I want to win, Andrew Surman wants to win, they want the result for their team and I do for mine.”

“I would be disappointed if players did not show their emotions in a game.”

Sheffield now face Brighton on 22 February as they look to continue their quest for entry into next seasons Champions League.
