Both goals came in the second half of the with Vinicius Junio scoring in the 71st minute and Mariano scoring 1 minute after official time had ended.

Real Madrid had come into the game as the underdogs having lost their last 2 matches against Levante and Manchester City.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane had even gone as far as describing this as a “delicate moment” for the club as they continue to fight for the La Liga title.

Barcelona, on the other hand, came into the match having gone undefeated in their previous 4 games across all competitions.

Barcelona was the better of the two teams in the first half but failed to capitalise on opportunities to gain an early advantage with Antoine Griezmann, Messi and Arthur all having their attempts denied.

Gerard Pique went on to say the following about Barcelona’s performance:

“We controlled the game in the first half, which was the worst I have seen Madrid play in all the years I have played at the Bernabeu.”

“We had a chance to make a real statement and if we had taken our chances they would have had a mountain to climb.”

“They come out of this game feeling very strong while we feel down but we are not out. I think there is still time for us to win the league.”

Real Madrid took over the game in the second half with Vinicius Junior scoring the first goal for Madrid whilst Marianno who came in as a substitute put away the second goal giving the home side a 2-0 win

 

Real Madrid are now front runners in the La Liga race, just 1 point above Barcelona and 10 points clear of third-place Sevilla.
