Manchester United fans will get to see former player Wayne Rooney back in action as Derby County take on Manchester United in the 5th round of the FA cup.
Manchester manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already stated that Rooney will be the man to watch out for joking warning Rooney that any goals he scores for Derby wl be taken of this Manchester United tally.
“He gave absolutely everything for this club. But any goal he scores against us will be chalked off his goals tally!” he jokingly said before getting serious about the former Red Devil’s threat to his squad.
“He’s a threat in and around the box and from set plays.”
“With this game Wayne will show what he can do and he wants to prove there is still fight in the old dog.”
“We’ve got to be on our toes and not give him any space in midfield because he’s got that Scholesy like passing range.”
Ole Gunner Solskjaer will have a lot to think about as he would like his team to progress through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as they successfully have over the past 5 years.
However with the Red Devils still in Europa League contention as well as having their sites on a top 4 finish on the Premier League, he may be forced to rest some of his players, especially seeing as they will be taking on EFL Cup winners Manchester City.
Wayne Rooney is confident that his side will have a chance against the Red Devils in Thursdays game as he went on to say:
“Manchester United weren’t in the greatest run of form when the draw was made in January, but they have picked up in recent weeks.
“For me, it’s a big game. They are my former club but it’s a big challenge for us here against a very good team. They will be favourites, so we just have to try and take our chances and stay in the game.
“For us as players, we want to go out on the pitch and get a good result. It’s a big day for the football club and it’s a big challenge for us.”
Derby take on Manchester United on Thursday 5 March in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
