Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss out their Premier League encounter with Bournemouth due to his hip injury.
In his press conference, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Alisson would also be unavailable next week for Liverpool’s 2nd leg match against Atletico Madrid, possibly returning in time for the Merseyside derby against Everton on March 16.
“Unfortunately Ali is out,” the Liverpool manager went on to tell the press.
“He had a little incident in training before the Chelsea game. We all thought it was nothing and it was clear he would not play anyway, the plan was he was on the bench.
“There, we thought, ‘Come on, we don’t have to take any risks’ so left him out of the squad. [There was a] scan the next day and they found something. So now he is out. We will see next week for sure and then we will see.”
He went on to try explain the extent of the injury saying:
“Muscle, slight, in the hip region. A small muscle. You [the reporters] could all do your work still but a professional goalkeeper is slightly different. That’s the situation.”
With Liverpool needing to secure a win against Atletico in order to remain in the Champions League, as well was win their upcoming Premier League matches to ensure they maintain their lead in their Premier League title race, the news could not have come at a worse time for Klopp.
More updates will be available as matchday approaches when Liverpool will take on Bournemouth in their Premier League encounter on Saturday 7 March.
