South African athlete Caster Semenya and news publisher EWN have been used in an ongoing online Bitcoin scam. It is still unclear whether Semenya or the publishing house EWN were aware that they had been associated with the scheme.

The website has copied the Eye Witness News (EWN) homepage and then written an elaborate story about how Caster Semenya was on a “Jenny and Phillip’s” show on Monday 9 March, talking about her success in Bitcoin.
The website then goes to suggest that Semenya has made “$15 million” in the past 12 months using this scheme.
The links on the website all redirect you to a company called Bitcoin -Era.
The article claims the South African athlete is now one of South Africa’s “richest businesswomen”
Bitcoin-Era has been flagged by online review site Scam Cryptorobots.com as “the most viral Bitcoin scam which is trending online”

“Caster Semenya is one of the most successful women in South Africa, and her wealth is appraised to many billions. She recently purchased a new luxurious apartment in Johannesburg, and her garage is filled with Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other premium vehicles. Semenya recently revealed that she earned this wealth by identifying a bulletproof investment opportunity for earning large cash.” the articles states, going on to say:
“In her appearance on live TV, Semenya revealed the controversial system that got her billions. Although many people were suspicious at first, she proved that she earned more than $15 million only in the last 12 months.”
