La Liga front runners, Barcelona, are trying to hold onto goalkeeper Ter Stegen as rumours of a move to Chelsea linger but may not be able to afford him.
Ter Stegen is demanding a $17 million a year salary which would put him as one of the top earners in the club behind the likes of Lionel Messi. Although Barca haven’t denied how valuable the goalkeeper is to the club, they just can not afford his salary along with those they are currently forking out.
As a result, Barcelona have chosen to scrap the negotiation talks until the Summer in the hopes they can figure out a way forward.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been with the club for the past 6 years making 224 appearances for the club.
The Barcelona goalkeeper has helped the club win a number of titles including 2014-15 UEFA Champions League, 2015 FIFA World Cup and the La Liga title 4 times.
Having already forked out £108m for Antoine Griezmann and also £94.5million for Ousmane Dembele, the club are being very tight nipped on their current spending.
Barcelona are to face Napoli on March 18 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League with both teams tie 1-1 on aggregate.
In the 2018-19 Champions League season, Barcelona suffered a shocking exit in the semi-finals having won their first game against Liverpool 3-0 but losing the 2nd leg 0-4.#Barcelon
