After illnesses suffered by England during their tour to South Africa, captain Joe Root stated that they will not shake hands when they travel to Sri Lanka.
The England cricket team are scheduled to play 2 five-day test matches against Sri Lanka, which are part of the ICC World Test Championship.

The first test being played from the 19-23rd of March and the second one commencing on the 27-31st of March.
After having picked up gastroenteritis and flu whilst on tour in South Africa, as well with the current scare of the Coronavirus that is spreading globally, Joe Root and his team have decided that instead of shaking hands, which is the norm in the “gentlemen’s” sport, they shall now just greet with fist pumps.
“After the illnesses that swept through the squad in South Africa, we are well aware of the importance of keeping contact to a minimum,” The England team captain said.
“We are washing hands regularly and wiping down surfaces using the anti-bacterial wipes and gels we’ve been given in our immunity packs.”
As a result of the health risks, the England cricket team has decided to fist pump their host hosts instead of greeting them with handshakes as is proper conduct.

Before the scheduled test matches though, England will play two practise test matches against SLC Board President’s XI. The first of these practise test matches will take place in Katunayake from 7-9 March with the second in Colombo, from the 12-15th of March.
Although the matches are still going ahead as scheduled, the team is in constant contact with officials regarding the health issue in the country as fears of the Coronavirus outbreak spread across the world.
With a number of other sporting disciplines being affected by the Coronavirus, the team are hoping that the test matches will be able to go ahead as planned.
