French Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu has announced that all Ligue 1 football matches will be played behind closed doors until 15 April so avoid the spread of the Coronavirus.

The stadium will be limited to a maximum crowd of just 1,000 spectators as the French government looks to curb the spread of the Coronavirus around France.

This means that PSG will have to face Lyon on April 4, in the Coupe de la Ligue final with only 1,000 spectators to cheer them on.

The other major event in the French footballing calendar that will now have to play behind closed doors or with the spectator limitation will be the PSG vs Marseille clash on March 22

PSG’s game against Strasbourg which was scheduled on Saturday 7 March had been cancelled due to the virus outbreak and now it seems that precautions have been set across the entire league until 15 April.

France football now follows Italy’s footsteps in restricting attendances at sporting events to try to reduce the spread of the virus through public gatherings.

Six Nations rugby has also been affected by the Corona Virus, with France’s match against Ireland being pushed back until as late as October.

At the time of publishing, France had recorded a total of 1,209 cases of Coronavirus with 19 deaths recorded.
