The English Premier League will hold an emergency meeting on Friday 10:30 am after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for the Coronavirus.

The Premier League officials will sit down and map a way forward given the outbreak of the virus but speculation is that they may have to follow the same route taken by other top-flight competitions around Europe and suspend games.

Arsenal were already forced to postpone their game with Manchester City earlier this week as several members of the club were put under self-quarantine after coming into contact with Olympiacos boss Pedro Martins during their European League match in February.

The quarantine was meant to be over on Friday 13 March but the recent development regarding Mikel Arteta has forced the next two Premier League games against Brighton and Southampton to be postponed.

Manchester City also confirmed that Benjamin Mendy was in self-isolation after a family member was hospitalized with symptoms similar to the Coronavirus.

Arsenal have put all members who had any close contact with Mikel Arteta in recent days under self-quarantine as they wait to assess the extent of the spread of the virus.

Mikel Arteta gave the  following statement:

“This is really disappointing but I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed.”

Cubs and fans anxiously await the outcome of the Premier League emergency meeting.
