Simona Halep Ready “For the worst-case scenario” Of Cancelled Season

“For the worst-case scenario in my head is this year is going to be cancelled,”

WTA world number two Simona Halep along with many other professional tennis players who are preparing for “For the worst-case scenario” of a cancelled season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As tennis calendar already awash due to various lockdown and travel restrictions being implemented worldwide to reduce the spread of COVID-19, tennis players are preparing for the most likely scenario of the season being cancelled this year.

Wimbledon has already been cancelled for the first time since World War II, all eyes are on the US Open which is scheduled to be held in August.

Shadows of doubt are being cast over whether the event will manage to go ahead as planned after the USA became the worst COVID-19 affected country in the world recording 533,115 positive cases and a total of 20,580 deaths so far.

Even after the pandemic subsides, it will take months before things will return to normal. Before any major tournament,  players will need adequate time to train and get back in shape.

As it is, most players are trying to stay fit at home but such exercises come with their limitations.

Current WTA world number two Simona Halep went on to say

“For the worst-case scenario in my head is this year is going to be cancelled,”

“I’m sure we are going to pass this period, if we listen and if we stay safe at home.”

“But for the moment the break is going to be longer and July. My longest break was three weeks until this break. I don’t really have that feeling to know how is it after such a long break with playing. I don’t know what to expect.”

“But the most important thing in game are the legs. I have to keep running and kept my muscles activated if I move well on the court tennis is going to be okay,”
