Maritzburg United Makes Phumlani Ntshangase Feel At Home

“Every player wants to play football. He is happy if he is going to get game time. He might want to be in Johannesburg but there’s nothing happening in Johannesburg at this stage. What’s important now is to look at the playing side and the financial side. We can’t say Phumlani is still young at the age of 24. He is not getting any younger,”

Phumlani Ntshangase, Bidvest Wits midfielder feels at home as he is on loan to Maritzburg United and he has also begun making plans to staying at the club permanently.

Ntshangase who is in his last three months of the contract with Bidvest Wits has decided to stay at the club where he is on loan as he is certain that the effort he has put into the team cannot go to waste and it would also be helpful to him as he would be closer to his hometown, Umlazi.

Sizwe Ntshangase who deals with the affairs of the player says that he has confirmed with the midfielder over the matter of leaving Wits and if things go according to plan, Ntshangase is set to start with the Clever Boys next season.

The midfielder has evolved in his performance after joining the Clever Boys and with his contribution, the club has been climbing up the log and if they continue with their performance they can end up in the top three when the league continues.

Sizwe said “At this moment I can’t confirm anything about his next move”

“With this pandemic, everything is at a standstill. The move to Maritzburg has offered him an opportunity to showcase his worth. He has grabbed every opportunity that came his way. He has done well under the tenure of (coach) Eric Tinkler. They’ve got a relationship from way back (they worked together at Wits in the past).”

Tinkler before coming to Maritzburg was a coach at the Wits development academy.

“Maritzburg have indicated their intentions of keeping Phumlani beyond his loan spell. They have shown interest by presenting us with a proposal of their offer” agent Ntshangase said.

“We sat down, looked at the proposal with the player and gave them our own proposal. When the coronavirus outbreak started, the paperwork was with them.”

Phumlani started 13 games for Maritzburg in all competitions this season.

“Every player wants to play football. He is happy if he is going to get game time. He might want to be in Johannesburg but there’s nothing happening in Johannesburg at this stage. What’s important now is to look at the playing side and the financial side. We can’t say Phumlani is still young at the age of 24. He is not getting any younger,” the agent explained.
