NRL Deregisters Corey Harawira-Naera And Jayden Okunbor Af Sex Scandal

The National Rugby League (NRL) have decided to deregister Canterbury Bulldogs and  Kiwi superstar Corey Harawira-Naera along with Jayden Okunbor following their sex scandal involving two high school girls.

Corey Harawira-Naera and Jayden Okunbor invited two highschool girls back to their hotel room and had consensual sex with the pair in their pre-season game in  Port Macquarie.  The two are said to have met the two Australian high school girls after visiting their school when they visited  Port Macquarie, New South Wales in February.

Although the girls were above the age of consent, the NRL decided to deregister the rugby players for “very serious breaches” of the NRL code of conduct according to stuff.co.nz.

Todd Greenberg who is chief executive  of the NRL went on to say :

“The behaviour of both players was inexcusable and a very serious breach of the code of conduct,”

“The game will not tolerate such conduct and as such both players have had their registrations cancelled.”

“This decision should send a very clear message to all players of our stance on such behaviour.”

The pair were deregistered for violating NRL rules tht state that players and staff are not allowed to bring women back to the hotel.

The team were in Port Macquarie for a pre-season match against Canberra. The Canterbury Bulldogs had at the time just lost a major sponsorship deal with Rashays which a family restaurant chain.

Although the sex scandal itself was not illegal as the girls were ver the age of consent, it did, however, tarnish the reputation of both the team and players and cast the sport into disrepute.
