PGA Tour Set To Resume While World Battles With COVID-19

PGA Tour announced the opening of the 2020-21 portion of the tournament with consideration to the safety and regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The health and safety of all associated with the PGA TOUR and our global community continues to be our No 1 priority, and our hope is to play a role responsibly in the world’s return to enjoy the things we love,” said PGA Commissioner, Jay Monahan.

“Today’s announcement is another positive step for our fans and players as we look towards the future, but as we’ve stressed on several occasions, we will resume competitions only when working closely with our tournaments, partners and communities, it is considered safe to do so under the guidance of the leading public health authorities.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic threatening the health and safety of people, Thursday’s announcement about the tournament seems to contradict the PGA’s stance on health and safety being a priority as is it plans to commence on 8-14 June with the Charles Schwab Challenge and ending with the Tour Championship.

The PGA plans to kick off with the first four events with restriction for the public audiences but will continue monitoring the situation and adhering to the recommendations of local and state authorities.

With the COVID-19, the Tour will consistently review the protocols that could be used at PGA Tour 2020-21 events to ensure the health and safety of all involved.

All events which were scheduled previously between 18 May and 8 June have been moved and will later be given dates, with RBC Heritage been added back to the PGA Tour schedule.
