Chelsea and the Football Association were both sanctioned by FIFA in 2019 for breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.
The FA has now challenged this verdict through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after seeing Chelsea successfully reduce their penalty. The hearing will be heard on June 26. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the arbitration will be over video conference.
Both parties were fined, and Chelsea was issued with a two-year transfer ban. The ban was reduced after Chelsea appealed to the CAS. The London club’s ban was reduced to a one-year transfer ban.

In addition, in May 2019 the FA was found to have breached protocol with the transfer of minors. The governing body was fined the equivalent of £290,000. The FA will look to appeal this penalty as well.

The governing body did state last year that they would appeal their penalty at the highest court. However, they also said they would “continue to work with FIFA and Chelsea in a constructive manager to address the issues which were raised by this case.”
Nevertheless, the Blues have secured their first signing after serving their one-year transfer ban. Hakim Ziyech will join the West London side on July 1. A fee of £37 million was agreed between Ajax and Chelsea for the winger.
