The Vodacom 2020 Durban July is still set to take place. The race is due to take place on July 25, at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse.
However, announcers have stated that spectators will not be allowed to attend the race. Instead, the event will be broadcasted for their viewing pleasure.

The hosts of the event Gold Circle said in a statement, “Horse racing fans can take heart that the 2020 Vodacom Durban July will take place this year, but as a broadcast-only event behind closed doors.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was postponed from July 4 to July 25. There is still speculation about if the event will occur. Hosts of the event, Gold Circle stated that they were unsure if this date would suffice given the nature of the virus.
“The Vodacom Durban July is the pinnacle of the South African racing calendar, and there is massive support from the racing community, sponsors, media, and the many regular supporters who attend the event,” said Gold Circle CEO Michel Nairac.
The theme of this year’s Durban July is set to be butterflies. However, it is the throngs of South African celebrities and horse racing fans that bring the theme to life every year.

The lack of spectators at South Africa’s most coveted horse racing event will see KZN lose almost R300-million for the economy this year. Regardless of when the event occurs, the primary focus will be to adhere to government regulations first and foremost.
