Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich has announced that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has extended his contract with them until 2023.
Manuel Neuer who is both captain and goalkeeper for both Bayern Munich, as well as the German national football team, will continue on with his Bundesliga team after having joined the club in 2011 from Schalke.
The statement on the Bayern Munich official website from Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge read:
“FC Bayern are very happy Manuel has extended his contract until 30 June 2023,”
“Manuel is the best goalkeeper in the world and our captain.”
Speculation had been raised about the goalkeeper’s fate after the signing of Alexander Nubel to the club.

Confirming his further commitment to the club, the 34-year old goalkeeper went on to say:
“During the weeks of the shutdown for the coronavirus pandemic, I didn’t want to make a decision because nobody knew if, when and how Bundesliga football would continue,”
“It was important for me to continue working with our goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. Now this has been resolved, I look to the future with great optimism. I feel very comfortable and at home in Bavaria. Bayern are one of Europe’s top football clubs.”
Neuer follows closely into the steps of another Bundesliga and German National team legend, Oliver Khan as he continues in his role as goalkeeper and captain for both Bayern and the national team.

Neuer has a number of accolades under his belt including winning the 2014 World Cup with Germany, Club World Cup, 7 Bundes Titles, 5 DFB Cups as well as being voted the world’s best goalkeeper four times.
Speaking in regards to Neuer’s contract extension, Bayern sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic:
