Jaap Stam Announced As FC Cincinnati Head Coach In Twitter Blunder

Major League Soccer (MLS) team, FC Cincinnati, has announced Jaap Stam as their new head coach. However, they may not be too sure of what the Dutch legend looks like.

In a Tweet sent out last night, the Ohio based club announced their new head coach. But with a picture of Tinus van Teunenbroek, a youth coach for Dutch team Ajax.

Therefore, anointing themselves the laughingstock of Twitter for the evening. However, they did correct their error moments later posting a tweet with a picture of Stam.

Stam joins Cincinnati after managing Reading in England and PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord, both in his Netherlands homeland.

FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said, “I strongly believe that Jaap can lead us through our next phase, to our new stadium, and help us achieve our goals in the future, making players better and bringing his knowledge and experience inside the club. I have full confidence that he will be successful at FC Cincinnati. And it will be a great fit to carry out our established playing philosophy and guide the club to achieve future successes.”

Stam has not received his work visa yet but will join the team once it is safe and legal to do so.

“To get the opportunity to work for FC Cincinnati and this project by building the club – hopefully even further than where they already are, because I think they’ve already done a great job – but being a presence as a team, even more in MLS, getting results and working together with the fans and everybody already working within the club, for me it’s a big challenge to do well,” Stam added.

The MLS suspended play on March 12. There have been no official announcements regarding a restart for the league. However, some clubs have opened their facilities for their players to train individually.
