Central Gauteng Lions Appoint First Female President

The Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) made history yesterday. They appointed their first female President and Chairperson to lead the Union, Anne Vilas.

CGL released a statement on its website welcoming their president and chairperson.

Vilas has over 30 years’ experience in the cricket arena. Particularly on the marketing of the GM brand with various professional cricketers. In addition, Vilas is an avid cricket supporter and has held the position of CGL vice president for two terms.

“I am extremely humbled to be elected as the first woman President and Chairperson of CGL and look forward to working with my two Vice Presidents, Ebrahim Lambat and Batlhalefeng ‘Lucky’ Lesele, my lead Independent Director Ziyanda Ngcobo and all the board of directors,” Vilas said.

The president noted that the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic are immense. However, it will not deter her and her board from accomplishing the goals they have set out to achieve.

“As CGL, we are working with various organizations like Cricket South Africa; the Department of Health; Department of Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation and SASCOC amongst others to ensure the safe return of our staff, clients and service providers, safe return to training and play,” Vilas added

“If you look at experience on the Board, Anne Vilas certainly ticks many boxes and is currently the most experienced Board member,” said Jono Leaf-Wright Central Gauteng Lions CEO.

“I look forward to working with all our stakeholders – CSA affiliated unions, staff, sponsors, partners, clients, unions, public sector entities, tenants, clubs, schools, universities, NGOs, media partners and all the fans that continue to support all our CGL and Imperial Lions brands”  Vilas concluded.
