The 2020 Major League Soccer All-Star Game is the latest event to be cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event was scheduled for July 29, at the Banc of California Stadium.
The match would have seen an all-star squad from Major League Soccer (MLS) take on Mexico’s Liga MX team in Los Angeles. The League released a statement suggesting that the event will be held in 2021.

“MLS and LIGA MX will resume discussions regarding the event, and there is every expectation that next year’s All-Star Game will be MLS vs. LIGA MX in Los Angeles,” the league statement read.
In addition, MLS and Liga MX have decided to cancel the Campeones Cup and Leagues Cup. The Campeones Cup would have pitted MLS Cup champions, Seattle Sounders against the winner of Liga MX’s Campeon de Campeones. The event was scheduled for August 12. Nevertheless, MLS has stated that the events will occur in 2021.
“Both MLS and Liga MX took the decision to cancel the second annual Leagues Cup, with a plan to resume the competition next year. The same decision was taken for the Campeones Cup,” the statement added.

The Los Angeles Times reported the possibility of the 26 MLS clubs being quarantined together at a Disney resort in Orlando and could then play regular-season games behind closed doors. However, the MLS has not confirmed any restart projects for the league.
The MLS season has been suspended since March, having only played two weeks of the season. However, club training facilities have been allowed to open for athletes to train.
