The Premier Soccer League will approve plans to see the Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Championship through to their completion, as well as find space on the calendar for the Nedbank Cup and the promotion/relegation playoffs.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) executive will meet on Tuesday to finalise plans to re-start 2019-20 season and ensure the top two divisions are completed.

The Premier Soccer League will approve plans to see the Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Championship through to their completion, as well as find space on the calendar for the Nedbank Cup and the promotion/relegation playoffs.

The Premier Soccer League have suggested the season must be completed in its entirety by 31 August, and with teams having only recently returned to training, that could present a tight time-frame.

While most Premiership and Championship clubs have six matches remaining, others, such as Mamelodi Sundowns and BidVest Wits, have nine, not counting their Nedbank Cup semifinal and potential final.

It will present a challenge to those squads as matches are likely to be played every few days in order to squeeze all the games in.

As well as setting a date for the restart and devising a fixture list, the PSL will also decide in which provinces they will host their ‘bio-bubbles’, where teams will camp and play in highly sanitized facilities.

It had been expected that it would be either Johannesburg or Sun City in the North West province, but weekend reports suggest KwaZulu-Natal is also now in the reckoning.

The Premiership or Championship could play in two different promises, or all be housed in one, as long as there is sufficient accommodation, training facilities, and stadiums available.

If the playoffs follow the same format as in previous seasons, there are 107 league and cup games remaining in the campaign in the top two divisions, and including the Nedbank Cup.
